יום חורבן גוש קטיף ושריפת בתי הכנסת שלנו ע”י פורעים, חל מדי שנה בתאריך ח אלול - יום ראשון הקרוב.

יום ח אלול הוא יום של חשבון נפש לאומי. 
ואולם, אי אפשר להוסיף את התאריך החשוב הזה ללוח השנה שלנו: הלוח העברי גם כך עמוס מדי בטרגדיות.
לכן, כל שנה ישנם אזרחים מן השורה, שלוקחים על עצמם לציין את יום ח’ אלול – בשם הציבור כולו – באחת מ-2 דרכים:

    * בבית – ע”י תענית של יחידים, במשך יום שלם או חצי יום
ו.או
    *  בירושלים - השתתפות ביום עיון ותפילה בישיבת הכותל.

2 הפעילויות מתאימות לגברים ולנשים, למבוגרים ולבני-נוער, לציבור הדתי והחילוני. 

תענית יחידים – בשם הציבור:
אם בכוונתך לקיים את תענית היחידים, ליום או חצי יום, ביום א הקרוב, אנא העבר לפרופ’ יהודה אליצור את הפרטים שלך: שם פרטי, שם משפחה, מקום מגורים, נייד, כתובת מייל, תואר אקדמי או אחר אם יש

Introspection and self-respect – this Sunday 
This Sunday, 23 August (Hebrew date: 8 Elul) is the day on which the State of Israel turned on peaceful Gush Katif. 
Palestinian bandits torched the houses of worship in the Gush – and used the charred remains for terrorist training.

8 Elul is the day for instrospection about this self-inflicted national tragedy.
The Jewish calendar is so full of tragedies that no more mass days of mourning or fasting can be added. 
So, each year, ordinary public-spirited Israelis volunteer to represent the public in one (or both) of  2 ways:
    * From your home – by participating in a modest day-long or half-day long fast
    * By participating in a  study-day in Jerusalem. 
Both activities are suitable for all ages, men and women, traditional or secular. 

STUDY DAY 
Yeshivat haKotel, Jerusalem, Sunday 23.8  16:45 till about 20:00.  
        Speakers:  Rosh Yeshiva of HaKotel on Emuna *  Chief Rabbi of RamatGan (Rabbi Ariel) on Sampson * Rabbi Avi Gisser on fasting now/then * Rabbi of (destroyed) Kfar Darom on Emuna in Gush Katif. 

VOLUNTARY FAST – AS A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE ISRAELI PUBLIC
If you are willing to volunteer to fast (wherever you live) for a half or whole day, kindly notify Professor Yoel Elitzur - yoel.elitzur at mail.huji.ac.il (or hit “reply) 
and give this information: your first/last name, title if any, place of residence, phone and email address.
